Game Overview
Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth places Deedlit at the center of a mysterious journey through an unfamiliar labyrinth. Developed under the supervision of original Lodoss creator Ryo Mizuno, the game explores events leading into Record of Lodoss War: Diadem of the Covenant while remaining accessible to players who are new to the franchise.
Its structure strongly recalls the exploration-focused Castlevania games. Players move through interconnected areas, discover equipment, fight fantasy creatures, and gradually unlock abilities that open new paths. Deedlit can alternate between sword and bow attacks, but the most distinctive system involves switching between the wind spirit Sylph and the fire spirit Salamander. These elemental affinities affect combat, defense, environmental hazards, and health recovery, giving the game a mechanical identity beyond its familiar Metroidvania foundation.
From a game design perspective, Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is an interesting example of how an established fantasy property can be adapted without simply retelling its best-known story. It uses a relatively focused adventure to examine Deedlit’s memories, emotional connections, and place within the larger Lodoss chronology.
The experience becomes especially meaningful for players who have already watched the anime or read the original material. Familiar characters and creatures carry more emotional weight, while the pixel-art presentation gives the world a nostalgic quality that fits both classic RPGs and older fantasy animation.
Curiosity
The game was developed under the supervision of Record of Lodoss War creator Ryo Mizuno and tells a previously unexplored part of Deedlit’s story leading into Diadem of the Covenant.
Personal Opinion
The game strongly reminded me of Castlevania. Playing it after watching and reading Record of Lodoss War made the experience even more exciting, because I already felt connected to Deedlit, the characters, and the world surrounding the labyrinth.
